We had to put our kitty Morgan down this morning. Aortic embolism.

He loved to eat lettuce and strawberry tops. He liked to take the occasional shower. He was mercurial--purring one second, hissing the next. He loved to perch on shoulders and jump on backs.

Even with the other kitties around, the house feels empty.

Today I'm thankful for my kitties.

Yes, sometimes they're a pain in the ass. The puke on the bed. They walk over me all night. Every once in a while one of them will pee in the tub.

But.

They snuggle with me. They head-butt my legs when I get home from work. They entertain me by playing with laser lights or kitty toys. They purr as they sleep on my ( Read more... )

The new kittens have brought ringworm into the house. If you don't following the linky, basically ringworm is a fungal infection that is zoonotic (animal pathogen that can cross-infect humans). New kittens are notorious carriers for this, but in all my years of cat ownership (25+ years) (!!!) this is my first experience with it. The new kitties ( Read more... )

Over the past few days a cat has been wandering around our back yard. It obviously belongs to someone, because it has a collar with a bell around its neck and lets Ken pet it. This was the scene a few nights ago:
